We have a close group of friends who happen to also be neighbors. We met when we were having babies and have been fortunate enough to move beyond circumstantial friendships to family-like status. We recognize that 'it takes a village' and I, for one, am glad to be part of this one.
Our tight little village is about 27 peeps deep. While we don't celebrate every single occasion or birthday I figured it was time to get all the special info in one place. So I made a little black book for everyone. Inside there is a page for each family including a photo and basic stats like address and phone numbers. The facing page has all the birthdays listed as well as email addresses.
Many of these nuggets of info are stored away in our minds and are in mental speed dial or auto fill in our computers. But, we now have an emerging generation of communicators who ask for the info regularly. I have also been stumped but the most basic questions that I am certain this little book would remedy. I have had to fill out emergency info cards many times and am missing the most obvious information because they are my neighbors (Address? Around the corner from me. That doesn't really count for school emergency cards.)
So we had an adult (!) gathering this weekend where Adrienne revealed her latest movie making talents and captured our snow trip in short film (she's such a gift to us all!). It happened to also be a wine tasting gathering. I figured it was the perfect opportunity to pass out our Little Black Books.
I am curious to see what else fills the pages. I intentionally left most of the book empty so each family could fill in whatever they wanted or needed. Even if it gets stored in a drawer never to be used by anyone else, it was a fun project for me and I will certainly find it useful.

LOVE the little black book. And it won't be forgotten in a drawer - I can assure you of that. As for the movie, I will be billing you for my time, as previously announced. But I'm glad you enjoyed it. In the name of ASC, - Adrienne
I wish I was your neighbor!
My little black book is not stored in a drawer. It is right here next to the computer and I actually checked it to see who's birthdays I recently missed.
