Birthday Briefcase

Friday, February 27, 2009
Last night's project 2.0. I made this cigar box into a crafting briefcase for an eight-year-old birthday gift. My first round was a decoupaged version with paper but I preferred this fabric covered case. We are gifting it with a stamping set and a blank bound book -- just waiting to be filled with dreams and doodles. She happens to be an American Girl fan so this could also be used for clothes for her new companion.

Where do you get the ideas and how to do the project? It looks great!

This project is super simple. You can get the cigar box at Michaels. It can be covered with paper (glue down very well before covering with Modge Podge or it will bubble up.) If you choose a fabric route simple glue the edges with a hot glue gun. I lined the inside with a ribbon for a fun finish.
The possibilities are endless. I think it's fun to give something that is unique and that fosters creativity. Better than any lead painted plastic toy, right?!

This is the sweetest little gift ever! Total keepsake. Between you and me I'm an American Girl fan I wish I had a little girl to buy that stuff for.
